Chandigarh, a new city constructed in the 1950s, was designed by the French architect Le Corbusier. The Rose Garden, claimed to be the biggest in Asia, contains more than a thousand varieties of roses. Excursions include the Moghul gardens at Pinjore , Shimla, the summer capital British India; Kullu Manali, located in the mountain state of Himachal Pradesh. The Kullu valley is a lush, green valley with the sparkling Beas river running through it against a backdrop of snow-clad Himalayan peaks. Manali is the base for a number of exciting treks and expeditions.
