Jaipur
is the capital of Rajasthan, the 'land of Kings'. the state is India at
its exotic and colourful best. Popularly known as the 'Pink city' because
of the pink sandstone used in the buildings of the old walled city. Jaipur
owes its name and foundation to the great warrior-astronomer Maharaja
Jaisingh II. The Hawa Mahal or palace of the winds is the city's central
landmark. Other palaces include the city Palace, the Jantar Mantar and
the Central Museum. The city is famous for its precious stones, jewellery,
marble statues, miniatures and textiles prints. Excursion includes Amber,
the ancient capital, with its fortress palace and a superb example of
Rajput architecture; Jaigarh fort; Pushkar, famous for its temples and
cattle fair, which is one of India's biggest and most colourful festivals;
Sariska and Ranthambore game sanctuaries.

Ahmedabad.

Delhi is Shatabdi Express which provides a fast, air-conditioned of
vestibuled, rail service. Other connections to Jaipur are from Bikaner,
Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Secunderabad, Agra, Lucknow, Bombay and
Calcutta.
