The lake city of Udaipur is a cool oasis in the heart of the colourful state of Rajasthan. Udaipur isCity Palace Museum famous for its Lake Palace, a magnificent palace now converted into a luxury hotel and the City Palace, which is converted into a museum. The beautiful Pichola Lake, Fateh Sagar lake and Jagdish mandir, an Indo-Aryan temple, are amongst the other places of interest. Udaipur is well-known for its local crafts, particularly paintings in the Rajput Mughal style. Excursions include Eklingi, a small village known for its numerous temples; Halighati, a famous battle field, Nathdwara and Ranakpur Temples.

Eklingji & Nagda
About 20 kms from Udaipur is the temple of Eklingji, dedicated to Lord Siva, the family deity of the Maharanas of Mewar. It dates back to 8th century, has silver door, screen and a silver Nandi (bull) facing the black marble Siva. A kilometer further are the ruins of Nagda Jain temples. The complex though comparatively smaller, has some intricate carvings and beautiful carvings on the pillars, ceilings and the walls depicting stories from the mythologies of Mahabharat and Ramayana.

  • Road : Some important road distances from Jaipur are Agra 240 kms, Delhi 261 kms, Jodhpur 332 kms, Ajmer 131 kms, Nathdwara 355kms, Alwar 142 kms, Bikaner 321 kms, Jaisalmer 654 kms and Bharatpur 176 kms.

  • Air     :Regular air services from Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur links Delhi to Bombay.

  • Rail   : Most of Rajasthan is accessible by a network of rail services.An excellent connection to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, from Delhiis the Pink City Express (5 hour run) which is a vestibuled, chair-seating rail service. Other places too are linked by passenger and express trains. Since rail journeys are usually long because of the distances involved, it is advisable to carry light snacks and water bottles as most stations en-route do not serve much by way of food.
